Gov. Reynolds issues statement on Cedar Rapids flood mitigation funding announcement

07.05.2018 - Des Moines - Gov. Kim Reynolds issued the following statement Thursday following an announcement the Army Corps of Engineers will award $117 million in federal funding to the Cedar Rapids flood mitigation project. Historic flooding in 2008 caused an estimated $5.4 billion in damages.

“Today’s announcement delivers long-overdue assistance for a critical infrastructure need – a permanent flood mitigation system – and ensures the City of Cedar Rapids has the resources it needs to rebuild and prosper after the devastating floods of 2008.

“The federal dollars are the culmination of a decade of lobbying by officials at the federal, state and local levels. I’m especially appreciative to Sen. Chuck Grassley and Sen. Joni Ernst, along with Rep. Rod Blum, for their tireless advocacy on behalf of this resilient Iowa community.”
